Day 6

March 3, 2014

Rant:

Hourly wages promotes laziness and inactivity. Apart from customer service jobs, what is the point of hourly wages? Specifically in positions where you need to get shit done (ex. assemble # devices). I could: 1. figure out the fastest way to produce devices or 2. do it as slow as possible to accumulate hours. When the only factor controlling wage is time, you will want to maximize time instead of productivity. Unless I get noticed, there's no reason to be faster at my job (thankfully, my manager is awesome and brags about me lots).

Today, I was in the middle of finishing one of my devices, but it was 4:30 (I work 8-4:30). My co-worker immediately left. Normally, I would have stayed a little longer and finished the device, but this time, I had absolutely nothing to gain. I literally left it for tomorrow because if I didn't I wouldn't have anything to do tomorrow (since we still don't have the damn parts X_X). Gah, I'm slowly going into the stupid "just look busy" mindset.

That reminds me! wtf is up with mandatory breaks? I get a mandatory 30 min unpaid lunch break with two 15 mins breaks. Either way 30 mins of my time punched in will be unpaid, even if I choose to work through those 2x 15 mins (didn't know that last week got screwed over 2.5 hours of overtime). At least this means I can take a legit 30 min nap any time I want during work (did it today felt freaking great).

About over time, I can't take it unless directly asked to X_X (didn't know this, but I guess this makes sense otherwise people would just set up camp at work). So, this means that I can only work 40 hours per week. This got me thinking that maybe I can work 10 hours per day and get Wednesdays off to rest and rock climb! I'm really hoping I'll be able to . My schedule would be perfect, but K*** says I shouldn't get my hopes up. I'll probably find out tomorrow from my manager.

gah rant rant rant I'm learning so much about the real world X_X.

Note from the future: breaks are now great. Why did I ever complain about them...
